Top 10 Ways You Can Support Your Local Pregnancy Resource Clinics
Do you feel strongly about pro-life matters but feel helpless in the fight for life? There are many ways you can use your time, energy, skills, talents, and gifts to bless families, new mothers, and your local PRC (Pregnancy Resource Clinic) staff and volunteers. Your willingness could directly save mothers and babies from abortion. Here are ten helpful ways you can support your local PRC.
There is a spiritual battle overarching the new and changing landscape of the pro-life movement. Family is under attack in our culture and in our government. Abortion is a deeply spiritual issue. The Bible tells us that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood but principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV). The shedding of innocent blood grieves God and is a serious injustice.
We need to intercede on behalf of families, fearful mothers, and vulnerable preborn babies. God is looking for those willing to stand in the gap and intercede on behalf of this nation and innocent lives, just like in Ezekiel 22:30 where God says, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (NKJV).
Your local PRC needs your prayers for protection and favor as they will receive the brunt of spiritual warfare and physical threats, evident after the Roe v. Wade reversal this year. Pray for the Lord to make a way for women vulnerable to abortion to find their way to wise counsel.
#2: Prioritize the Sanctity of Life in Your Local Church
Look around at the women that make up your church pews on Sunday morning. Studies have shown that one in four women have an abortion in their lifetime. Chances are, there are women deeply grieving decisions they’ve made in the past. They need the Church to operate as the hands and feet of Jesus to come alongside them to be built up and encouraged, to get help in the healing process, and to share their testimony of how God offers mercy, grace, and redemption. We overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimonies (Revelation 12:11). These are women who can use their voice for the Kingdom and point all glory back to God.
Abortion is not political. Your local church should be speaking up for preborn babies more than just for a special Sunday sermon once a year. As the body of Christ, we are called to protect the poor and powerless, the widows and the orphans, the fatherless, and the oppressed. It’s time for the Church to rise up.
PRCs are made up of both staff and volunteers. Get plugged in at your local PRC and ask what their needs are. They may need a helpful admin, someone to answer calls, a friendly face to greet clients, or a willing vessel to share the good news of Jesus Christ. At the very least, you could be a blessing and clean bathrooms, tidy up, or sort through baby clothes and donations.
What if you could be a liaison between your local church and PRC? This could begin a great connection for your community to reach women vulnerable to abortion and foster relationships. These women need long-term support and encouragement that extends beyond the doors of the PRC.
The truth is that PRCs need your financial support to function. Where Planned Parenthood receives millions in government funding from tax dollars and programs like Title X and Medicaid, most PRCs are not funded by any government assistance. As 501(c)(3) nonprofits, they rely heavily on donors (or ministries like Pre-Born!) to offer free or reduced resources and care to women.
Where we spend our time and money are indicators of what we truly value. Pray and ask where the Lord is calling you to steward your money.
You may not have the capacity to donate, but that doesn’t mean you can’t raise money instead. In May 2021, three young girls, Emily, Phoenix, and Savannah, walked from Illinois to Indiana to raise money for preborn babies in their Walk for the Unborn. Mapping out 132 miles to cover, their hope was to raise a $1,000 every mile for a total of $132,000. They surpassed their goal, raising $156,000 to help moms choose life for their preborn babies!
At the time, these girls were just beginning high school, but their age did not limit their determination to make a difference in moms and preborn babies. If God can use three young teenage girls in their willingness to sacrifice their time, convenience, and energy to save babies and souls, then how can God use you?
#6: Arrange a Formula or Diaper Drive
A fun baby shower question often asks, “How many diapers does a baby go through in the first two years of their lives?” The answer is usually astronomical (i.e. between 7000-8000 diapers per baby). PRCs provide free resources to women. Diapers and wipes are a huge blessing to have on hand.
Infant formula is expensive, and with the national shortage, PRCs could use your help to keep up their supply to give to women. Call your local PRC and see how you can help. Then, arrange a formula or diaper drive in your community or church. Perhaps it can become an annual tradition where you pick a month of the year to collect these items.
#7: Empty Your Closets
Another universal truth is that babies grow fast! That is where a lot of gently-used clothes pile up. Clean out your kids’ closets. Encourage your church or community to donate infant clothes sized newborn to two years in a clothing drive.
Many PRCs offer women “stores” to select baby clothes, diapers, wipes, and other materials they may need to welcome a new life into the world. In order to keep these stores free and operating smoothly, your involvement is essential.
#8: Throw a Baby Shower
Similar to a diaper, formula, or clothing drive, you can throw a baby shower for your local PRC! Baby showers are a special way to shower new moms with gifts, support, and encouragement. Many low-income mothers may feel overwhelmed with the thought of the more expensive items needed for a new baby, like a crib, car seat, or stroller.
Perhaps your Clinic can put you in touch with a pregnant mom to bless. So many women feel pressure to abort because they lack support and community. A baby shower would be an opportunity for you to come alongside these new mothers and provide community and connections that outlast the mother’s pregnancy.
#9: Use Your Talents
In what ways has God gifted you? How can you use those gifts to contribute to this ministry? Maybe you’re a good writer and can volunteer your skills to write emails, client testimonials, or maintain a blog for your local PRC. What if your computer programming skills could transform your PRCs website into a valuable resource? As a photographer, you could offer free baby photo sessions or maternity shoots for the PRC.
Just as important as the skills and talents God has given you, your testimony and experience can also be helpful to connect with women. Have you had an abortion? Is the Lord leading you to counsel women who may be angry, hurting, confused, or depressed? How can your testimony create precious opportunities to share the love of the Father and lead women to Christ?
#10: Encourage PRC Staff & Volunteers
Your local PRC staff and volunteers do not have an easy job. They need your encouragement and prayers. Every day, they minister to mothers facing unplanned pregnancies, typically with women in very difficult situations. They are on the frontlines of this battle, celebrating when life is chosen, and mourning when moms choose abortion.
Send your local staff and volunteers “thank you” notes and/or have flowers delivered to the Clinic. Order a pizza during the Clinic’s lunch hour. If your gift is hospitality and encouragement, you could be a tremendous blessing to your local PRC.
Pregnancy Resource Clinics need your help. With your support, they can continue to provide free resources and services to women facing unplanned pregnancies.
As you read above, there are many ways to get involved with your local PRC. Each one of these is an opportunity for you to make a difference in the fight for life! Whatever your gifts and talents may be, find a way to put them to good use and encourage those on the front lines of the pro-life movement.
Get involved today and make a difference in the lives of mothers and their babies.
