Many women facing an unplanned pregnancy find themselves reeling in confusion and debilitated by fear. However, we serve a God who refers to Himself as “not the author of confusion but of peace,”(1 Corinthians 14:33, NKJV). Charlotte’s story was one that started in confusion and fear but ended with clarity and confidence.
Charlotte’s Appointment
The Texas Heartbeat Law, which prohibits abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected prevented Charlotte from having an abortion. Instead, she went to a PreBorn! Network Clinic to get information regarding her pregnancy. During her appointment, she was noticeably scared and anxious. She shared her confusion with the Clinic staff. She had just moved to the area from out of state and had been laid off from her job.
While her boyfriend was excited about the baby, Charlotte tried her best to prevent the pregnancy. Up until her appointment that day, Charlotte had taken the morning-after pill three times with the intention of terminating the early pregnancy. While the morning-after pill is not the same as the abortion pill, it is considered by many to be an early abortifacient, as the pill was once advertised as an emergency contraceptive that blocks a fertilized egg from implanting on the uterine wall. It was clear that abortion was the only option that Charlotte was considering. She let the PreBorn! Network Clinic know she had already made an appointment with an abortion clinic outside of Texas. The PreBorn! Network Clinic was not able to perform an ultrasound scan due to several health concerns, but the Clinic staff took time to sit with Charlotte to go over her options.
More Than a Number
We’re thankful that the Texas Heartbeat Law allowed Charlotte to find her way to a PreBorn! Network Clinic before her abortion appointment. The abortion industry is about profits over people—Planned Parenthoods and abortion clinics profit from offering quick abortions before they care for the emotional well-being of the mother.
Moms and families who enter PreBorn! Network Clinics are more than numbers or statistics to be won. They aren’t seen as money filling corporate pockets. PreBorn! partners with Clinics that believe in the power of prayer and operate as intercessors. Jesus said that the Church should function as a “house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13) Each mother is covered in prayer from the moment they make their appointment at a PreBorn! Network Clinic to even long after they walk back out of the Clinic doors, whether they choose life or not.
When it was time for Charlotte to leave her first appointment at the PreBorn! Network Clinic, it was unclear if she would return for a follow-up appointment. Yet, the Clinic continued to fervently pray for her and called to check in on her.
The Power of Prayer
Several weeks after Charlotte’s initial appointment, she and her boyfriend returned to the Clinic. She was transformed! The woman that first came into the Clinic confused and scared had now confidently chosen life for her baby! In the time between appointments, something had shifted in her. The Holy Spirit intervened. Romans 12:2 urges us to “…not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (NKJV). Charlotte certainly experienced the renewing of her mind, moving from confusion to immense clarity.
Charlotte and her boyfriend were able to see their baby on ultrasound, and they were ecstatic! Together, they had fun picking out free items for their baby at the Clinic’s baby store. The two were now preparing for their baby’s arrival, joyously making plans.
Conclusion
Compassion and guidance are not enough. The Holy Spirit is essential to change the hearts of abortion-minded mothers. It’s more than bolstering numbers or making profits. Real lives are being saved. Real women are embracing motherhood against all odds. Families are transforming generations to come by finding hope in Jesus Christ.
